Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of negation and prohibition in the nature poetry of the Andalusian poet Ibn Zaydūn, focusing on their grammatical and rhetorical structures and their role in generating and directing meaning. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, first outlining the linguistic and rhetorical functions of negation and prohibition, then analyzing their application in nominal and verbal sentences within Ibn Zaydūn’s poetry. The study highlights how negation frequently appears in his verse to reflect experiences of love, exile, and imprisonment, while prohibition occurs less often but conveys figurative meanings such as supplication and entreaty. The findings reveal that both negation and prohibition play a crucial role in shaping Ibn Zaydūn’s poetic imagery, enhancing the aesthetic and semantic value of his poetry in expressing his emotions and inner struggles.
