Abstract
Cyprus is a small island that has historically been a point of contention due to its identity and affiliation, with both turkey and Greece claiming it .this has led to a political conflict between the island two main communities :the greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots .currently ,the island is divided into two independent entities .the first is the dreek Cypriot republic ,wich is internationally recognized, a member of the united nations and the European union ,and controls about 65% of the island territory ,with Nicosia as its capital .the second is the Turkish republic of northern Cyprus ,wich declared independence unilaterally and controls around 35% of the island ,but it is only recognized by turkey.
