Changes in Agricultural land for wheat in Baghdad and Babylon governorates between 2013 and 2023 : A comparative study

Abstract

This research aims to study change in agricultural land use Baghdad and Babylon governorates for the period ( 2013 – 2023 )these governorates are located in central Iraq and cover an area of ( 3869600 ) dunams  . The study addresses (9) the problem of the study : The variation in agricultural land use for wheat during the period ( 2013 – 2023 ) it also examines the changes in wheat cultivation , their trends , and their causes for the same period , furthermore it studies the extent to which geographical factors ( natural and human ) influence agricultural land use in the area .

The study found a change in agricultural land use in the governorates of Baghdad and Babylon between the years (2013 – 2023) , and that the cultivated area in the study region decreased from ( 626018 ) dunams in base year 2013 to (214441) dunams in the comparison year 2023 , with a change rate of (57.63% ) .
