Islamic Sharia Objectives in Preserving the Five Essentials and Their Impact on Enhancing Cybersecurity

Abstract

This research examines "Cybersecurity"—as a technical means of controlling digital space—from the perspective of the Objectives of Islamic Sharia (Maqasid al-Shari'ah). The study begins by rooting the concept of security linguistically in its Greek origin and terminologically by linking it to the protection of information systems. It reviews the Sharia foundation of the concept of security in the Quran and Sunnah, clarifying its impact and connection to the five essentials (Religion, Soul, Intellect, Progeny, and Wealth). The research problem lies in the extent to which Sharia objectives can accommodate technical developments and provide a legal framework for protecting digital space. The study adopted the inductive method to trace the evidence of security and the analytical method to link it to cyber reality .

The research concluded that: Cybersecurity is not merely a technical luxury; rather, it is a (Legal Necessity - Darurah Shar'iyyah) that falls under the objective of preserving the general order of the Ummah. Furthermore, protecting data and digital privacy is a contemporary extension of preserving the five essentials that Sharia came to safeguard.
