Abstract

The Holy Quran is the miraculous text that has remained throughout time a subject of linguistic and grammatical study. Among the manifestations of its miraculous nature are the close relationships between its meanings, however far apart they may be, and the clear agreement and coherence between its words, verses, and chapters. The study in this research, titled "Ellipsis and its Impact on Grammatical Coherence in the Seven Long Surahs in Light of Textual Studies," selected Quranic verses from the seven long surahs to highlight the ellipsis within them and explain Its impact on the meanings and interpretation of the Holy Verses; this is within the framework of textual studies. The research was divided into an introduction and a preface in which the terms mentioned in the research were clarified, including deletion linguistically and technically, and the meaning of coherence. Grammarians in ancient and modern studies, and the long surahs. The first section came to explain the effect of deletion on nouns, as it cited some verses of the Holy Quran in which deletion occurred, including the deletion of the subject, predicate, and agent. The object, the adverbial, and the genitive. The second section was dedicated to explaining the effect of ellipsis on verbs, as it included a group of verses from the Holy Quran in which the past, present, and imperative verbs were omitted. The research concluded with a summary. I summarized the most important findings I reached. Ellipsis in Arabic is a broad field, considered one of the strengths of the language, and is used by speakers for brevity and conciseness; this is due to the existence of contextual and verbal clues that indicate what has been omitted from the speech. The context and the omitted element are of great importance in removing ambiguity and obscurity from the text. They constitute a cohesive relationship within the text at the grammatical level and achieve coherence, because they eliminate the need for repetition, and the implied omission leads to continuity. Meaning within the text. Textual cohesion or cohesion is an element that reveals the connection between sentences and paragraphs in the text, leading to the unity and coherence of the textual units. Deletion occurs to avoid repetition, for brevity, to show emphasis on what is omitted, for ease of understanding, or for speed of compliance
