The reality of strategic planning for some football clubs in the Premier League (reality and analysis

Abstract

- Research objective This research aims to identify the degree of application of the managements of professional football clubs in Iraq to strategic planning in their clubs. The degree of application of the administrations of professional football clubs in Iraq to the strategic analysis in their clubs. Research questions: What is the degree to which the administrations of the excellent football clubs in Iraq apply strategic planning in their clubs? What is the degree to which the administrations of the excellent football clubs in Iraq apply to the strategic analysis of the internal and external environment in their clubs? Are there statistically significant differences in the application of strategic planning and analysis among members of the boards of directors of excellent football clubs.The research methodology and its field procedures. The researcher used the descriptive approach due to its suitability to the nature of the study and the achievement of its objectives. Research community: The study community consisted of the presidents and members of the boards of directors of the excellent Iraqi football clubs for the season 2020-2021, of the 108 heads and members of the boards of directors. As for the research sample, an individual was randomly selected from the research community represented in the following. The research sample included 74 individuals who were randomly selected from the research community, as follows: heads of clubs and their number is (9) heads of members of the general body and their number is (65) members The study sample constituted 68% of the research community. As a research tool, the researcher built the questionnaire in its initial form, where the researcher developed the questionnaire’s axes and formulated the paragraphs for each axis, so that the questionnaire included two areas: strategic planning and internal and external environmental analysis, and it included (44) paragraphs. Iraq applies strategic planning to a medium degree, while it applies strategic analysis to a high degree (from the point of view of the club’s board members) that the majority of professional football clubs suffer from the issue of lack of sufficient support and lack of financial revenues, which limits the process of building a strategy for development within club That strategic analysis is a sober means that gives information on the ground, to be used in the strategic planning process of the club. The most important recommendation of the research is the necessity of adopting a model for the strategic analysis of the club with consulting with specialists from outside the club’s system to obtain real results far from cosmetic.
