Leishmania parasite and leishmaniasis in Iraq: a reference study and a historical view

Abstract
Leishmaniasis has been known for a long time and is still one of the ten most important infectious diseases in the world, in addition to being a public health problem in many African countries, South America, Central and Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. It is also one of the endemic diseases in Iraq. The parasite has caused A significant health problem in southern Iraq, especially in Dhi Qar Governorate. The current article sheds light on the history of the disease and its importance in Iraq.
