Abstract

This study represents a modest effort by the researcher, which is concerned with studying a contemporary artistic phenomenon that contributed significantly to the deviation of the path of art - in general - from its traditional (iconic) style, to the horizon of change, modernization and renewal, which is the phenomenon of (experimentation).
This is because many artists - all over the world - have pursued the act of "experimentation" as a means of escaping from the traditional retrenchment towards liberation, openness, and contemporaryity.
What concerns the researcher here - and in the light of what will be presented in the theoretical framework of opinions and ideas - is to reach the results that serve the goals of the current research in a way that achieves part of the relationship of experimentation with contemporary painting, and this will be done by shedding some light on the productions of the artist "Shaddad Abd". Al-Qahar” as a model of the artists who took the method of (experimentation) as a plastic approach for them.
This research included four topics, as listed below:
(The first topic) specialized in (research methodology), which included (the research problem, its importance, its objectives, and its limits, then defining the terms contained in it). As for the (second section) of this research, it included its theoretical framework, which contained three axes, namely:
First / experimentation and its artistic dimensions // in which the researcher dealt with the concept of experimentation and its technical implications and artistic dimensions.
Second / Artistic raw materials and their relations to experimentation // in which the researcher dealt with the plastic and philosophical concept of raw material, as well as its role in modernizing the plastic painting through "experimentation", which cannot be activated on the surface of the artwork without there being basic pillars that direct it towards creative work, among them ( culture, experience, as well as the stimulating material).
Third: Experimentation and its relationship to modernity and contemporaneity // Here, the researcher focuses on the role of "experimentation" in guiding the path of artistic work towards modernity and contemporaneity.
As for (the third topic), it included (research procedures), which included (the research community, the selection of samples, the determination of the research methodology, and the tool) and then (the analysis of the samples), through which three artistic paintings of the artist "Shaddad Abdel-Qahar" were analyzed. It was deliberately chosen because it contained the implications of experimentation, which resulted in a number of results, the most important of which are:
1/ Experimentation must be regulated by certain rules and standards that stem from an absolute and comprehensive awareness of all the reasons and criteria for a particular work of art. This is so that this experiment does not turn into a "sabotage" of the entire artistic process.
2/ Preserving the identity of the artwork (whether it is a plastic painting, a sculptural work, or a piece of ceramic...) is an important condition for establishing any artwork.
3/ Among the activators that would direct the "experimental" artwork to the path of modernity and contemporaneity are:
A- The connection of "experimentation" with the global and the contemporary based on the principle of (change, modernization and renewal).
B - Emphasis on the formal-semiotic side of the artwork.
C - Saturating the expressive side with complete freedom, starting with formal and symbolic discourse.
D - Adding two elements (movement and time) to the artistic discourse.
Then - specifically in the fourth section of this study - the list of sources and references was mentioned, and finally the translation of the research summary into English.
