Abstract

This study aims to shed light on the role of the morphological structure of Arabic verbs in activating language-based discourse that supports sustainable development. The research stems from a recognition of the centrality of language in constructing and directing developmental discourse aimed at both individuals and communities. The focus is on verbs with high morphological and semantic potential—particularly those whose forms convey cumulative meanings such as repetition, intensification, progression, and continuity.
The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to trace the morphological patterns of verbs within contemporary Arab developmental discourse, particularly in Iraq. It is supported by examples from the Qur’an, literary texts, and both classical and modern morphological- semanticperspectives. The analysis reveals that verbs such as yunammī (develops),yuʿazziz (enhances), yushārik (participates),yukhaṭṭiṭ(plans), yabnī (builds), yanhaḍ (rises), yudrik (perceives), yuṭawwir (develops),yastathmir (invests),yastadām(is sustained),and yuḥaffiz (motivates) possess morphological patterns that contribute to the generation of semantic networks which enrich and direct the discourse toward clear developmental objectives. The importance of these verb forms lies in their capacity to convey abstract,transformative,andaction-orientedmeanings.
The study concludes by recommending the integration of Arabic morphology into the formulation of developmental discourse and emphasizing the importance of derivational analysis of verbs to enhance the effectiveness of language in serving sustainable development goals in Arab societies.
