Professional Exeaustion for Educational Counselor

Abstract

Professional Exeaustion among educational counselors is a negative phenomenon that directly and indirectly impacts the quality of the educational process and student achievement. Its effects extend beyond the individual counselor, leading to a decline in psychological and professional well-being, to encompass the entire work environment, including colleagues and the educational institution. Furthermore, the increased absenteeism resulting from burnout contributes to a greater workload for other staff members, especially those already working under pressures exceeding their capacity. Based on this, the current research aims to identify:

2. The significance of the difference in Professional Exeaustion according to gender (male-female) among educational counselors


3. The significance of the difference in Professional Exeaustion according to years of service (-5 years, 6-10 years, 11 years and above) among educational counselors The current research population consisted of educational counselors working in the Third Karkh Education Directorate, totaling (470) counselors (198 males and 272 females), for the academic year (2025-2026). To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the scale (Jasim, 2021), which in its final form consisted of (22) items, ensuring its psychometric properties in terms of validity and reliability. After administering the scale to the research sample, the results showed that the level of Professional Exeaustion among the sample members was low. The results also showed no statistically significant differences in the level of professional Professional Exeaustion based on gender, while revealing statistically significant differences based on years of service, favoring counselors with 1–5 years of service.

In light of these findings, the researcher concluded by offering a set of recommendations and suggestions that could contribute to guiding future studies in this field.
