Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the effect of the Inverted News Pyramid Template on functional writing among secondary school students. The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental approach with partial control and employed a post-test-only control group design. The research sample was selected randomly from one of the secondary schools affiliated with the General Directorate of Education of Al-Rusafa Third. The sample consisted of (65) students from Al-Warithin Secondary School, distributed into two groups: (32) students in the experimental group and (33) students in the control group.Equivalence was established between the two groups in a number of variables, including chronological age, language ability test scores, and final Arabic language grades from the previous academic year. The experiment lasted throughout the first academic semester. To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher developed a functional writing test as the research instrument. Using the t-test for two independent samples to determine the statistical significance of differences between the two groups, the study yielded the following result:There was a statistically significant difference at the significance level of (0.05) in functional writing performance in favor of the students of the experimental group compared with those of the control group.

In light of the findings, the researcher drew a number of conclusions, presented several recommendations, and proposed suggestions for future research.
