The Impact of Grammatical Structure on Clarifying The Sender's Intentionality: "on The Sidewalk of Estrangement" By Said Jassim Al-Zubaidi As A Model

Abstract

This study aims to trace the impact of syntactic structure on the   construction of intentionality and the clarification of meaning in poetic discourse, taking the collection “On the Sidewalk of Exile” by Saed Jassim Al-Zubaidi as an applied model. It seeks to reveal how syntactic structures cooperate in shaping the intended meaning on the part of the sender, by examining patterns of declarative and performative constructions and the functions each performs in directing the discourse The study also investigates the phenomenon of foregrounding and backgrounding as a semantic device that contributes to revealing and specifying elements of meaning, as well as exploring the role of cohesion in ensuring textual harmony and determining the course of intentionality within the text A descriptive-analytical approach has been adopted due to its suitability for the nature of the research, as it enables an examination of syntactic structures within their poetic context and an exploration of their expressive potential in producing and clarifying meaning. This is achieved through varying styles between declarative and performative forms in accordance with the poet’s psychological states and emotional experience, as well as through the use of foregrounding and backgrounding to highlight focal points of semantic emphasis in his poems. In addition, cohesive devices are employed to establish a network of relations that govern the coherence of the texts and guide the receiver toward the sender’s intentionality. This demonstrates that intentionality directs syntactic structure according to the poet’s linguistic abilities in employing grammar to serve his expressive vision
