Abstract

The current research aims to know the effect of McCarthy(4MAT) model on the acquisition and retention of mathematical concepts among 1st grade intermediate students . To verify this experiment was conducted in the first course of the academic year(2021- 2022). It was limited to 1st grade intermediate students in Al – Nahda school for boys affiliated to Babylon education and experimental design with partial control was adopted with a post test. Sample included (60) students who were subdivided into two subgroups contains (30) students per group. The intelligence test, previous achievement and the test of previous knowledge in math. Requirements of research were considered, which consisted in defining and analyzing academic content, formulating the objectives teaching plans for both groups. Building a test for acquiring mathematical concept consisting of (69) paragraph of the type of multiple choice . Verified the validity, reliability and conduct statistical analyzes for its paragraphs. Test was applied to the students of research sample and the data was processed using (t-test) of two independent samples of equal numbers and in light of this. It reached conclusions and recommendations most prominent of which was need to use McCarthy model in teaching math as it keeps pace with modern educational theories. Research also suggested conducting a similar study on different educational stages.
