Mathematical logic and its relationship to achievement and mathematical proof in topology among students of the College of Basic Education

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to know the extent to which students of the fourth stage of the Department of Mathematics / College of Basic Education / Al-Mustansiriya University possess (of mathematical logic and its relationship to academic achievement and mathematical proof), in order to achieve the goal of the research and test its hypotheses, the researcher used the descriptive approach and prepared a test for measuring mathematical logic consisting of ( 24) Paragraph on mathematical logic skills It includes (information gathering, arithmetic skills, strategic thinking skills, attention, technical skills), a test to measure achievement, a topological material consisting of (24) items in topics (Topological Space Types of Topological Spaces Open and Closed Sets Open Neighbors and Neighbors Derivatives of Internal, External, Constrained and Closed Sets Basic Theorems Continuous Function of Topological Space)


And a test to measure the skills of mathematical proof consisting of (24) paragraphs that include (transformation skills, the skill of deducing relationships, the skill of reaching the general idea to the solution, the skill of solving in more than one way, the skill of reviewing the solution). And (0.89) for academic achievement and (0.88) for mathematical proof and after applying the test to the research sample consisting of


 (100) male and female students from the College of Basic Education and data processing statistically, the researcher reached the following results:


1- The students of the fourth stage possess (mathematical logic, academic achievement, mathematical proof) to a good degree.


2- There is a direct relationship between mathematical logic, academic achievement and mathematical proof for students of the fourth stage, and thus it was found that the rise of any one of them is accompanied by a rise in the rest of the tests.
