Abstract

The poetry of Francis Ponge centers upon object and language which he considers as an essential source for poetical creativity.

Through his prosaic poems Ponge tried to find a relation between objects and language using a style that basically depends on description.

Not only he wanted to contemplate things but feeling them too; therefore he used the ( hypotypose) technique which means any description similar to live painting that gives impression about what is absent.

Using this technique gave the poet the opportunity to get things from stiffness to the world of poetry where bread changes to the Alp and cigarettes to passionate creature.

Moreover the technique created harmonization between text and the described object. Whereas a careful look at his poetry discovers that the poet did not only described things he also described the text; therefore we cannot separate things and description as he made the text serve the object not vice versa and this explains the variety of his style from a poem to another.
