Abstract

After reading the book (Al-Thil al-Tam al-Dawl al-Islam) by the historian Shams al-Din al-Sukhawi, the researcher realized the importance of this valuable work, as it contains rich and varied material covering the social, economic, cultural, and administrative aspects of the era in which it was written, and increases the value of the book that its author was one of the trusted people who lived through the events of that era, and was an eyewitness to many of them, which gave his narrative accuracy and realism, although al-Sukhawi devoted a large area in his book to the conditions of the Egyptian and Levantine countries and paid particular attention to the Mamluk state and their news. However, he did not neglect other Islamic countries, as he conveyed the news of Hijaz and the Two Holy Mosques as a result of his frequent travel to them, as well as information about Iraq and other Islamic empires. All these factors prompted the researcher to direct the attention towards studying this work, as it has a distinguished place among the works of the ninth century AH, especially since it included detailed documentation of the disasters and crises that affected the Islamic countries at the time, and the serious effects it had on lives, property and various other aspects of life.
