Abstract

The contemporary poem is characterized by its openness to the narrative-dramatic scene, originally derived from novelistic techniques such as the interleaving of voices, times, and places. This bestows vitality upon the text, distancing it from the bleak prosaic stagnation that might otherwise surround it. Through these techniques, the poetic experience is transformed into a visual, dramatic, and kinetic image, breathing a spirit pulsating with artistic creativity and semantic density charged with emotions, imagination, and imagery. By moving away from reportage and directness, the poet borrows expressive tools from the arts of theater and the novel, including dramatic and narrative structures that enrich the text through the interweaving of literary genres—a hallmark of the poetic works of Adib Kamal ad-Deen.
