The Spatial Transformation of Residential Cities Towards Sustainable Smart Cities

Abstract
The research aims at the spatial transformation of residential cities towards sustainable smart cities from a human geographical perspective, with a focus on the urban infrastructure index in Iraq. The research deals with the concept of smart cities (smart city) by studying the different urban aspects of cities, and technology and geographic information systems have a role in supporting and managing the city in an innovative and advanced technical way so as to improve its social conditions as well as protect the environment and improve the quality of life and the efficiency of operations and urban services while ensuring that the needs of present generations are met and related to social, economic and environmental aspects. The methodology relies on transforming residential cities into smart cities from a human geographical perspective using geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze key urban indicators such as transport, energy, services, and communications. The results indicate that spatial transformation is a dynamic process that has a significant impact on the interaction between man and technology, and shows spatial variation on the adoption of smart urban infrastructure indicators. The research recommends the need to integrate the human dimension in the planning of smart cities and promote smart urban planning in new city projects in Iraq, and this is to ensure the social and environmental sustainability of society.
