Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the morphological patterns of derivatives in the poetry of Mahmoud Dalli Al Jaafar and explores their semantic significance within the poetic context. It is based on the importance of derivatives in the Arabic language as one of the most prominent morphological devices that contribute to expanding meaning and enriching semantic expression. The study examines the morphological patterns of the active participle, passive participle, adjective of resemblance, intensive forms, comparative and superlative forms, and the nouns of time and place. It traces their occurrences in the poetic texts, identifies their morphological characteristics, analyzes their semantic and stylistic functions, and relates them to the contexts in which they appear in order to reveal their role in constructing poetic imagery and expressing the poet’s emotional and intellectual experience.
The study adopts the descriptive-analytical approach, relying on the collection and classification of poetic examples according to their morphological patterns, followed by their analysis in light of Arabic morphological references and dictionaries. The findings reveal that the poet makes extensive use of derivatives in their various morphological forms. This diversity is not merely a formal linguistic feature; rather, it plays an effective role in deepening meaning and highlighting the psychological, intellectual, and aesthetic values of the poetic text. It also contributes to achieving stylistic coherence and demonstrates the poet’s ability to employ the expressive potential of morphological patterns in conveying his poetic vision.
