The Impact of Graphic Design on the Marketing of Oriental and Islamic Products (A Theoretical and Applied Study on the Perfume Industry in Jordan and Saudi Arabia)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to explore the impact of graphic design on marketing Islamic products, with a practical application focused on the perfume industry in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The significance of this study lies in the symbolic and cultural nature of perfumes within Islamic societies, where visual identity plays a vital role in conveying meaning and shaping consumer perception. The study adopts both theoretical and analytical approaches. The theoretical framework discusses the fundamentals of graphic design, principles of visual identity, and the importance of Islamic symbols, Arabic typography, and culturally meaningful colors. It also examines the specific characteristics of marketing Islamic products and how cultural and religious values influence consumer attitudes and purchasing decisions. On the practical side, the research includes an analysis of selected perfume packaging designs from Jordanian and Saudi markets, supported by data collected from consumers, designers, and brand owners. The findings reveal that consumers in Islamic markets prefer visual identities that successfully merge Islamic heritage with modern visual trends, and that graphic design directly shapes their purchasing motivations—especially for culturally sensitive products such as perfumes. The comparative analysis shows that the Saudi market exhibits a more advanced level of graphic design implementation due to strong competition, greater diversity of brands, and higher investment in visual identity. Meanwhile, the Jordanian market shows potential but still requires further development, particularly in understanding consumer behavior and prioritizing design quality. The study concludes that graphic
design serves as a strategic marketing tool rather than a decorative element. It plays a crucial role in enhancing the competitive advantage of Islamic products. The research recommends developing well-researched visual identities that reflect Islamic values, utilizing design elements that strengthen cultural connection, and investing in innovative packaging strategies to improve product positioning at both local and regional levels.
