An Educational Program Based on The Pressiesen Model For Developing The Structure of Dramatic Action For Students of The Institute of Fine Arts In The Subject of Playwriting
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Pressiesen model emphasizes the development of a set of cognitive competencies that enable individuals to solve problems creatively and systematically. Accordingly, the present study aimed to:
- Construct an instructional program based on the Pressiesen model.
- Identify the effect of the instructional program, designed according to the Pressiesen model, on developing the structure of dramatic action among Fine Arts students in the subject of Playwriting.
To achieve these aims, the researcher developed an instructional program for the Playwriting course and constructed an achievement test to measure the structure of dramatic action. The following null hypotheses were derived:
- There are no statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level between the mean ranks of the experimental group students’ scores in the pre- and post-cognitive test (structure of dramatic action).
- There are no statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level between the mean ranks of the experimental group and the control group students’ scores in the post-cognitive test (structure of dramatic action).
The research population consisted of (245) fifth-grade students enrolled in Fine Arts Institutes in Iraq. The researcher adopted an experimental design with two groups (experimental and control). A random sample of (30) students was selected from the fifth-grade students studying Playwriting at the Fine Arts Institute / Al-Karkh Third (morning study) for the academic year (2025–2026), distributed into two randomly assigned classes.
Findings indicated that teaching according to the instructional program based on the Pressiesen model—implemented through the stages of analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation—contributed effectively to the development of the structure of dramatic action among fifth-grade students.
Recommendations include adopting the instructional program based on the Pressiesen model in teaching Playwriting to enhance the structure of dramatic action and integrating modern instructional programs, including the Pressiesen-based program, into the Playwriting curriculum in Fine Arts Institutes.
