Abstract

Architecture constitutes a manifestation of civilizational development throughout history as a measure of that development witnessed by civilizations of the ancient world, and Roman civilization is one of the most important of these civilizations, which was a great and widespread interest in various aspects of knowledge, especially the arts, literature and architecture in a distinct manner. Roman architecture diversified in its purposes, functions, and method of construction, which was at first a reproduction and imitation of Greek architecture with which it was located on one border and later large parts of Greece came under the authority of the Romans. This architecture was also distinguished by its unique aesthetic, and this architecture was characterized by development and intellectual transformation, especially as the Roman civilization was influenced by Christianity, which was modernized at the end of the Roman democratic era.
