The Effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Reducing Fear of Virtual Missing Out (FOMO) Among Middle School Students

Abstract

The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of a counseling program based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in reducing the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among middle school students. To achieve the study objective, the researchers developed a FOMO scale consisting of (10) items, and its psychometric properties were verified in terms of validity and reliability. In addition, the researchers designed a DBT-based counseling program composed of (12) sessions, conducted twice a week. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design, with a sample of (20) students. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results indicated the effectiveness of the counseling program in reducing the level of FOMO among middle school students. Based on these findings, the researchers presented a number of recommendations and suggestions
