And Their Relationship To Academic Prosperity Future Foresight Skills Among University Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
The current research aims to identify the following:
- The future foresight skills of university students.
- The academic flourishing of university students.
- The correlational relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing among university students.
- The difference in the relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing based on gender (male, female).
- The difference in the relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing based on specialization (scientific, humanities).
- The differences in future foresight skills based on gender and specialization.
- The differences in academic flourishing based on gender and specialization.
To achieve the research objectives, the researcher developed a future foresight skills scale according to Grin's theory (2020), consisting of 40 items. The scale includes 8 skills: decision-making and problem-solving, flexibility and adaptability to changes, continuous learning and self-development, technological and digital awareness, effective communication and teamwork, strategic thinking and long-term planning, awareness of global issues and sustainability, and entrepreneurship and foresight of future opportunities. The researcher extracted the psychometric properties of the scale and verified its validity and reliability.
The researcher also developed an academic flourishing scale based on Seligman's theory (2011), consisting of 36 items, distributed into two areas: time management and organization, and balance between academic life and personal life, with 18 items in each area. The psychometric properties of the scale were extracted, and its validity and reliability were verified.
The researcher applied both tools to a final sample of 400 male and female students, with 109 male and 91 female students from Al-Mustansiriya University, selected using a stratified random sampling method. After applying the research tools and analyzing the data statistically using statistical methods, the researcher concluded the following results:
- The research sample possesses future foresight skills.
- The research sample exhibits academic flourishing.
- There is a positive direct relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing.
- There is a statistically significant difference in the relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing based on gender, in favor of females.
- There is no statistically significant difference in the relationship between future foresight skills and academic flourishing based on specialization (scientific vs. humanities).
- There is a statistically significant difference in future foresight skills based on gender, in favor of males. Additionally, there is a statistically significant difference based on specialization, in favor of scientific specialization. No interaction was found between the variables of gender and specialization.
- There is no statistically significant difference in academic flourishing based on gender. However, there is a statistically significant difference based on specialization, in favor of scientific specialization. No interaction was found between the variables of gender and specialization.
In light of the research results, the researcher concluded a set of suggestions and recommendations.
