Abstract

Pure Polyvinyl chloride )PVC( and Polyvinyl chloride/Diethylzinc (PVC.Zn(etx)2) thin films were prepared on glass substrates using the spin coating technique. The effect of Zn(etx)2 doping ratio (0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 wt%) on the properties of the prepared films was studied. The Field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) was used to examine the morphological properties of the thin films, and it was found that all films have a homogeneous surface with very few cracks. The effect of Zn(etx)2 on the functional groups of PVC was also studied using FTIR spectroscopy. The optical properties were studied based on the absorption and transmittance spectra of these thin films in the wavelength range (200-900 nm), as well as the electronic transitions of the prepared films. The type of transitions for these films was determined, and it was found that these films have a direct allowed optical energy gap (Eg), which decreases with increasing Zn(etx)2 doping ratio, in addition to altering the behavior of the absorption spectrum after doping as the absorption of visible wavelengths increases, which makes it suitable for solar cell applications and applications that require absorption of visible wavelengths.
