Abstract

Folk forms emerge into existence through the activity of the people of a particular environment. Natural, religious or moral phenomena, as well as translating habits and ideas into signs that have turned into symbols and a fertile field for change for the artist. It also reflects the variables in the structure of human, artistic and aesthetic awareness of society that can be invested and employed in extracting artistic units.
The current research presents a reading of the artist's movement in employing the local folk rug in the area of ​​contemporary Iraqi painting across generations and the intellectual and social framework. Analyzing the popular imagination in building rug units as artistic symbols and their role in preserving the artistic heritage of Iraqi society. And the employment of the popular rug in Iraqi painting over the decades of the life of the Iraqi plastic movement and its inspiration in different ways.
